Art talk: Pissarro in South London (1 – 2 pm and 2 – 3pm)
Look no further than your own doorstep to discover French Impressionist painting.
To escape the ravages of the Franco-Prussian War, a number of French artists and writers made London their home in the early 1870s, particularly in the area of Upper and West Norwood. Apparently, the attraction of England for Pissarro was the cloudy skies and for Monet the fog over London!
Discover and discuss paintings on familiar sites, including Fox Hill in Norwood and what is now known as Lawrie Park Avenue, Sydenham, as well as views of the Crystal Palace.
