Who is this course for?

This qualification is designed to increase your knowledge and understanding of mental health and mental well-being. This course is aimed at people who have experience in this area of work.

What will I learn?

The objectives of this qualification will help you to understand:

  • Mental health legislation, services and public attitudes and how these have evolved
  • How to support mental well-being through various stages of life
  • Mental ill-health, treatment options available and the potential consequences of mental ill-health
  • The skills required to work in a mental health service.

How will this course benefit me?

Successful completion of the required units will allow you to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of mental health. It will also support your progression into relevant employment within the health and social care sector.

Course requirements:

This course is for people who have completed the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young people’s Mental Health, or a related Childcare or Care /Healthcare qualification

You will be required to complete a short English assessment and attend an interview with the Course leader.

You must have your own laptop to use for online lessons (Zoom) and to complete assignments.

Progression opportunities:

Access courses for degrees in Social Care/ social work /midwifery/nursing or Management in Care, Assessor Awards and Teaching qualifications, L4 Management in Care.

Course location:

Courses will be delivered in our Strand House Centre, some sessions may be delivered online.

Who is this course for?

This qualification is for those who work in the Health and Social Care sector whose role includes caring for those who have a life-limiting illness.

What will I learn?

This qualification will provide an understanding of the principles of end of life care, including knowledge of:

  • The definition of end of life care.
  • Approaches to end of life care.
  • How to support a person’s familial, spiritual, social and emotional needs.
  • How to confront issues of death and bereavement

How will this course benefit me?

You should have achieved a Level 2 qualification in a health and social care related area.

You will be required to complete a short English assessment and attend an interview with the Course leader.

  • Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care

This qualification is designed to support you to develop their knowledge and understanding of dementia and dementia care. This course is aimed at people who had some experience in this area of work.

What will I learn?

The objectives of this qualification are to enable you to understand: 

  • Types of dementia and the importance of early diagnosis.
  • Person-centred approaches in dementia care.
  • The role of communication, interaction and inclusion in dementia care and support.
  • The use of medication to support individuals with dementia

How will this course benefit me?

This qualification will support progression into relevant employment within the health and social care sector.

Course requirements:

You should have achieved a Level 2 qualification in a health and social care related area.
