Have you been away from learning or work for a long time?

Would you like to develop skills for learning and work in a supportive environment?
Our friendly and encouraging tutors will work alongside you to develop your skills
and confidence so that you can progress onto further training or into employment.

You will explore your strengths and opportunities and learn more about getting into
work and develop invaluable job search and interview skills. Previous learners have gone
on to other courses at CALAT or with other training providers or have found jobs in
the areas that interest them.

Do you want to develop your personal and social skills in order to progress into employment?

CALAT can offer you a lively and interactive course environment which will help you:

  • Understand more about working in a variety of employment settings
  • To set goals and achieve them
  • Develop your personal and social skills to prepare for employment
  • Develop job search and interview skills
  • This course offers an excellent progression route to a variety of Level 1 courses depending on your employment interests

 The course focuses on the following areas:

  • Planning for Progression
  • Behaviour at Work
  • Effective Communication
  • Introduction to ICT
  • Searching for a Job
  • Applying for a Job
  • Improving Personal Manner and Conduct
  • Developing Personal Skills

When?

The course will be delivered over two terms (15 weeks) with breaks linked to school holidays. The course takes place at CALAT Thornton Heath Centre two mornings a week – days to be confirmed.

How to enrol

You must come to an information and assessment session before the start of the course. Successful selection is dependent upon interview and satisfactory completion of a Language & Literacy Assessment.
